Stylemx Team rider Dominic Hoyal takes inaugural Queensland Offroad Championships.
Local Cairns rider Dominic Hoyal took the outright win at the inaugural Queensland Offroad Championships held at Malanda in Far North Queensland last weekend.
In a display of blistering pace, Hoyal lead the 2½ hour cross country race on the Saturday and then backed up with a 16 sec win on the day two sprint format.
“This was an awesome track I would like to congratulate Peter Buckley and the Ravenshoe Motorcycle Club for all their hard work” said Hoyal.
“The track looks a picture and my 350 KTM, from Wayne Leonard Motorcycles was on song”.
“I would like to thank Chris Reading and the other expert riders who made the trip up here, they really keep me hopping” Hoyal finished.
Second place in the E2 class and 3rd outright was Chris Reading who made the trek north with brother and pit crew Jake.
“You cannot believe how spectacular this track is” said Reading.
“What a fantastic venue!” he said.
The track was fast and demanding but a whole lot of fun!
Jamie Bain, an A grader motocrosser from Mackay placed 3rd in the E2 class.
Mackay rider Michael Hand who came 2nd outright and 1st in the E1 class was imilarly excited about the venue.
“We came up to this venue for a Pony Express last year, and I couldn’t wait to come back” said Hand.
“The sprint on day 2 was so much fun and the lead changed a couple of times. My congratulations go to Dom, I had my Bullet Bikes YZF 250 flying, but he rode really well for the win” finished Hand.
2nd in E1 class was Paul Byrnes and 3rd was Rick Buckley on a KTM 250SX in what proved to be a toughly contested class.
E3 class was won by Andrew Porta with Clint Johnson, the Veteran winner and Graeme Bell the Masters victor.
Juniors was dominated by a flying Kane Hall from Mackay on his Husqvarna from Jeff’s Bikes and Bits.
“I had a great time!” said Hall.
“Everything went perfect and I can’t wait to go up to seniors next year” Hall continued.
Ryan Hand placed second in the Juniors with Sean Squarci from Cairns in third after battling throughout the weekend.
The Race organiser Peter Buckley said that this was the first time Ravenshoe Motorcycle Club had run an event with this format but all the riders had so much fun with the sprint format.
“We are so lucky to have a venue of this calibre with rolling green hills and just perfect viewing of the track” said Buckley.
"The transponder system was unreal, the times were available as the rider crossed the line and the spectators really appreciated the running commentary”.
“I would like to make special mention of Andrew Davies for manning the transponders, and Motorcycling NSW for the effort they went to ensure that the transponders got here” he finished.
Buckley was pleased with how the first Queensland Offroad Championships went, and confident that it would return again next year.
